What is your favorite vegetarian food: Sandwich, Ethnic food, comfort food, Side dish?

Sandwich- chick pea tuna sandwich. (Chick peas pickles and veganaise)

Ethnic food- dont really eat alot of ethnic food

Comfort food- mac n cheese ( about 2 cups dayia cheese 3-4 cups almond or rice milk 1 tbsp of garlic powder salt and pepper to taste heat all in a sauce pan till it is all melted. And about 2 cups of elbo macaronie.) For better instuctions go to dayias website this recipe is on there.

Sidedish- lemon pepper garlic fries( cut into fries 4 large potatos. In a mixing bowl put 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tesp salt 1 tesp garlic powder 1/2 tesp pepper 1/4 tesp paprika 1/2 tesp lemon zest. Put potatos in bowl and cover them in the mixture. Put on cookie sheet single layer and cook at 450 f for 45 min.)

- - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1. two slices of wholegrain toast, a handful of spinach, red onions, capsicum and a squirt of chili sauce
2. chinese red bean paste buns
3. agar agar, an extremely low-calorie vegan jelly substitute
4. mashed potatoes.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

1. Lettuce and carrots w/ spicy mustard
2. Burrito
3. Mashed potatoes
4. I don't do "sides"- I cook one dish and eat it, holidays aside.
And since I'm vegan, there isn't the whole meat-surrounded-by-everything else part.

What is the difference between soy, regular and skim milk?

all taste different. Regular is what we know as store bought milk. skim milk is a lot less flavor and not all that tasty for drinking water does just as good unless putting it on cereal and personally water taste better than blue water.

soy milk has its own rich flavor and distinctive from real cow milk. do not have all the fat content of the cow milk. I love cow milk best but use soy and almond milk to keep the allergies down. I use some but a lot starts the allergies in a torrent. Seems like hay fever but if in the winter even cold air triggers a coughing fit. Try to not use it at all unless out and unavoidable.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

"taste" varies among individuals, but ggenerally speaking; yes! skim-milk taste less sweetning, but just as filling as reg-milk. while coc9nut/almond/soy/rice/acorn/oat [milks] tatse both less filling{faattening} & less sweetning. they have fewer calories and 60%+ less sugar p/serving than low-fat milk & skim milk.
the taste of some alternative milks can be compared to thaat of grainy/earthy water. imagine the texture of water, with a hint of almond/rice/oat to it.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Yes, there is a very different taste between dairy and non-dairy milk. As I will not drink dairy milk because of the way the industry treats cows, my faviourite non-dairy milk is now almond.

What oil is best and healthiest for cooking and salads?

Cooking: I prefer Coconut
Why? It's one of the highest concentrations of naturally occurring saturated fats there is, it is very shelf stable due to no open bonds, and is much better for cooking at a higher temperature than olive oil as it is less likely to oxidize.

Salads: Flax Oil (I like the ones infused with chili's/herbs as it gives more flavor)
Why? Rich in omega 3's which is tough(ish) to find as a vegan, it's an anti-inflammatory, the essential fatty acids are largely responsible for its skin-healing and irritations.

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Oils are not the healthiest for you. They are processed and since all the fiber is stripped many say it is like eating empty calories.

I have heard that coconut butter is the best because it keeps the fiber from the coconut in it.

Coconut oil is good for cooking because it can withstand it.
Olive oil, and many other oils, are not good for cooking because they oxidize and become damaged fats.

You don't want to eat damaged fats.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - --  -- - - - - - - -- - -

when cooking I use olive oil it is more expensive but is a mono fat. best not to use a whole lot for any reason because food wrapped in any fat need to be digested before the other nutrition gets digested inside of the oil wrapping. also do not cook to the smoke point this changes all vegetable fats into trans fats and that is not good. Canola oil is the second best it is a mono fat and is cheaper but I love the flavor of olive oil myself.

as for salads if for your self extra light olive oil is best but if you do not mind the flavor of evoo then it has more good stuff in it and that is what I use for making dressings.

1 good dressing is
homestyle italian
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tab water
1 tsp salt
2 tab lemon juice
1 tab Italian seasoning of choice

shake and dress the salad.
the water helps to blend the oil and lemon juice let it set about 15 minutes for more of the seasoning to get into the oil. good ether way. Shake and serve.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

For me I use extra virgin olive oil for both, as recommended by my dietitian. I have high cholesterol and olive oil is a healthy fat.

And the reason it's at the bottom of the food chart is because proportionally, you shouldn't be eating many servings of it like you would with veggies and fruits. Moderation is the key.

What is your favorite recipe high protein vegan?

Stop trying to spread the protein myth. No one needs more than the RDA unless they are doing more than 2 hours of heavy exercise such as endurance training ( I can't imagine anyone lifting weights for 2 hours plus steadily).

The rda for males is 55 grams and 45 grams for females. This is more than exceeded with a normal vegetarian or vegan diet. No one ever suffers a protein deficiency unless in a state of true starvation.

There are multiple challenges issued asking to prove a protein deficiency on the proper calories.

On 3,000 to 4,000 cals a day (3,500 being dead average) I easily consume 100 grams of protein average.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

grilled portobello, crispy fried onion, a mix of lightly sauteed yellow pepper, green and yellow zucchini strips, shredded soy cheese, roja salsa ( made with roasted red and orange peppers, chil and tomatoes) black beans and vegan sour cream. Add a spoonful of guac for topping.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Bean Protein Shake. One cup cooked beans chilled, one small banana, hand full of blue berries, teaspoon of splenda. Blend together until smooth with ice.

370 calories
18 grams protein.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - --

Tofu scramble. A block of extra firm tofu (this has nearly all of the protein I need in a day, about 40 grams, when I need about 45 personally) with poppy seed, curry and cayenne.  Be careful about protein overdose.

Does it alter their nutritional content or medicinal values of the fruits stored in the refrigerator?

As far as I am aware, both fruit and vegetables start to lose some of their vitamin and mineral content the moment they are picked, but at a very slow rate. So, any kind of storage will result in a little less nutrition than when eaten straight from the plant.

The main problem with fruit is that once they are separated from the parent plant they are designed to begin decaying in order to release the seeds which will eventually multiply the species. They decaying process is then accelerated by moulds, fungi and other species which use the nutrients to reproduce their own species.

I find that certain berry fruits seem to decay faster in the fridge than at room temperature, but why this is I dont know. This is especially true with blackberries, raspberries and strawberries.

With larger fruits and those with harder, thicker skins a cold environment does slow their deterioration rate, but then some of the sugars in the fruit will slowly begin to ferment. This will alter the nutritional structure of the fruit anyway, and may even increase the presence of certain nutrients while other decrease. It is a very complex subject.

- - - - - - - -  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Not at any significant level. In studies, even when fruit was cut and refrigerated it only lost 5 to 10% of vitamins after 6 days of storage. Even this small loss is insignificant.

Some fruits however will not ripen once chilled and in general ripening of fruits will be delayed greatly by cold storage.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

It can for some, like tomatoes(yes they are a fruit). The cold destroys the flavor enzyme in tomatoes and it does NOT come back when the tomato is returned to room temperature. Storing in the fridge is okay for most fruits but not necessary unless you prefer cold fruit and have lots of room in your fridge. Most are NOT kept in coolers at the store at all and are sold at room temperature.

Variety of ways to eat tomatoes

Sliced with a little sea salt. The tomatoes would have to be home grown or beef steaks. Winter tomatoes are horrid. I do use them for cooking, but would rather open a can of diced tomatoes, drain them and put them in a salad than use and imported mealy tomato.

My favorite sandwich using tomatoes is Arnold white bread, lightly toasted and spread with Hellman's mayo, filled with a freshly cooked sliced hard boiled egg and sliced beefsteak tomatoes.

- - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I eat fresh, home grown tomatoes like an apple. Most tomatoes at the grocery store dont have a lot of flavor so they get stewed and made into soup.

- - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - ------ ------ -- --- - - -

I'll usually just have cherry tomatoes and I like to eat it plain and fresh. Cooked tomatoes just taste gross to me.

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - -

On a sandwich plain with Mayo or Green and Fried. I LOVE fried green tomatoes.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Sliced with a little fresh ground pepper and ground sea salt.
Sliced with some diced onion along with the ground pepper and ground sea salt.
Sometimes add a little Ken's Italian Marinade and Salad Dressing to the above mix.

- - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

They go good with a burger and lettuce. Usually, I wait until I have enough from my garden to make a sauce for pasta. SO much better than any sauce from a store! The cherry tomatoes go in salads.

Calcium vitamins for vegans

Calcium is in breakfast cereals, soya milk, nuts, seeds, green leafy vegetables, tofu, wholemeal bread and dried fruits. You will not need supplements if you eat a variety of these foods. I expect the nurse automatically said you needed calcium supplements as soon as you told her you were vegan, did she take a blood test to prove that you were deficient? Many people associate milk and dairy as the only source of calcium but it is abundant in vegan diets, one glass of chopped brocolli contains more calcium than a glass of milk.

What is the best whey protein?

I occasionally use the Body Fortress super advanced whey protein powder in smoothies. It's pretty good, but can be chalky if it isn't mixed through all the way. I like it a lot, though!.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I prefer cytosport 100% whey. It's actually pretty tasty, mixes well and I certainly build muscle pretty easily for a vegetarian.

What is your favorite ethnic dish vegetarian?

1. Baklava

Though it’s time-consuming to prepare, this Greek bakery staple makes a great transition to home cooking, so long as you’re in the mood to get messy.

2. Baja Fish Tacos

One of the most crowd-pleasing, inexpensive buffets, we serve fish tacos a little too often. This simple version echoes the flavors of Mexico, with its fried fresh fish and understated accoutrements.

3. BiBimBap

BiBimBap is a Korean hotpot, and so long as you’re not too worried about authenticity, it’s infinitely customizable at home.

4. Fried Rice

Perfect for using up leftover rice (and really any other leftovers in your fridge), fried rice makes an appearance on every Chinese menu and is fun and quick to recreate.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I really enjoyed hot spicy eggplant and okra dishes. Here is one I have tried cooking myself that I would definitely recommend. You can adjust the amount of chilli depending on how hot you like your food.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

hot spicy eggplant and okra dishes.

Which are your favourite vegan ingredients that you pick out?

Avocado and onions. I have eaten sandwiches with just those two things on them before so it will always be the first thing I eat. Also, love to pick the tofu out!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

just im weird in that i eat the carbs or appetizers first (like the rice), and then have the main course after (like tofu with peanut sauce or grilled seitan with whatever sauce)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Typically beans because they have all the protein.

becoming a vegetarian should stop killing more animals

Nobody is fool enough to think that being a vegetarian will stop murder of innocent people, er animals.

But you have many reasons to be vegetarian and for myself, the animal welfare was not top of the list or even Number 2, 3, or 4.

Many people don't like the flesh texture or smell. Others dp it for religious reasons.
It's up to you if you are being vegetarian for the sake of saving or at least helping to stop killing some animals. The meat industry is the largest in the world, so it would take 100 years or so so change it. The same as slavery used to be, but bigger and more entrenched in people's lives.

Simply put, there are so many people in the world who eat animals and it's going to take a long time to change them all IF that is what you're after, to stop all animals being killed for meat.

If there were 4 people on the planet and 2 of them were vegetarian, then by reasonable argument, there would be fewer animals killed.

So in theory, you are going to be making fewer animals die. IN theory. The disgusting truth especially in USA is that SO MUCH FOOD is wasted. thrown out. In other countries this would be illegal.
You are making a difference. First to yourself, second to the greater cause. If one more person in this town became vegetarian today, and repeated throughout America and the actual world, then there would be a difference. A big one.
Butyou need to do this for your own reasons first. If you do not believe n yourself, it doesn't matter what you do.

How to find the inner strength to make a big change on the vegetarian lifestyle?

Well, I would cut out one thing at a time from my diet...say, pork for example - so then don't eat pepperoni, ham, or hot dogs but you could still eat chicken, fish and burgers. Then try to cut out beef, try eating veggie burgers or chicken or fish instead...then cut out chicken...and so on.

- - - - - - - ---- ---------------------------

I guess they just have more incentive. Either with strong beliefs towards animal rights or due to health issues. Some people just don't tolerate meat well. And if something you eat makes you sick every time you eat it. The taste of steak just doesn't carry the same appeal anymore. I have that issue when it comes to cheese. I love cheese, but it if makes you sick enough, you just lose your taste for it eventually.

- - - - - - - - - --- -- --- --------- - - -- - - - - - -

I made the change from watching a 4 minute video.... and was so incensed by how the people were treating the cow. I promised that cow that I would never eat meat again and haven't for 4 1/2 years.... then went vegan a year later. I don't find I need willpower, it is just who I am now. Like any change in life all it takes is habituation; our lives are constantly changing and we evolve throughout our life.

- - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - -

A strong motivation is all that is needed

What should you do? be vegetarian is this an eating disorder?

recently i have found out that almost nothing is vegetarian. almost all cheese has "rennet" in it..i have gotten so depressed about it. i have been a vegetarian almost my whole life and my family isn't supportive. there is no chance i am allowed to vegan. i have talked to my family about how grossed out i am about eating meat and how i am scared now and they said then just stop being a vegetarian.

Consider this:

Hee heee, now how can they be so mean, well i tell You, many years ago i was a meany , i was so bad with my sis, as she wanted to try vegan foods, well now it is us, hubby and me , and so i tell You eating vegan foods can be so fun ! We are lucky to have a health food store close and also a Whole Foods store sort of close, there are wonderful box mixes You can buy that You can make just for Yourself, also some great cheeses that are soy or rice based, melt and taste really good, right now i love the pepper jack one and the mozzarella one that is really good,

the cheddar is too bland, but a great box one is "Fantastic" brands there are a taco one , awesome,Tubule, the caucus ones and many more, Be proud that You want to eat differently for Yourself, a great movie and wonderful fun recipes , "Forks over Knives" look it up on Your search web, also just any vegan recipes, on line for Yourself, easy and quick to cook It is a choice to not eat anything with faces as my wonderful sis would say, we have been doing great ! i love Almond and soy milks, to drink and add to my coffee, You can have rice and others, Quinoa, millet and more are great, add some veg., broth and yummy ! Do "N~Joy" and be very proud of Yourself !

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - -

It is not a disorder. Don't let them get you down. Just read the ingredients of everything you eat, like I do. Not sure if it's vegetarian? get a list of non-vegetarian ingredients and look out for them. There is also a Vegan/Vegetarian section in grocery stores (there should be one in every grocery store).

Stay vegetarian, it is a lot healthier for you

The best protein powder comes from FOOD!!! you do not need protein powders.

The best source of protein is through food. You should work on your diet, if you are a vegetarian or a vegan (I assume because of where you posted), the whole idea is to focus on your food intake and avoid things like supplements and vitamins... those things are for meat eaters. A can of beans, a box of tofu... one of those alone may make up as much as half of your daily need of intake. Mix veggies to form complete proteins, consume grains and soy products.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Get a mass gainer. I don't know where you come from, so I can't advise exactly. However, I'd recommend going with Optimum Nutrition's mass gainer protein. Alternatively, buy a whey protein isolate and then supplement your carbohydrates yourself.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- -

The best protein powder comes from FOOD!!! Real natural pure protein, like "spirulina powder" -that's its natural state, never take pills...-, that's a good idea. You can also eat seitan, which is pure protein, that is if you're not gluten intolerant -because it's all gluten-. I'm just the opposite, I NEED gluten, so seitan is one of my favourite protein foods.

For more calories, simply cook seitan or tofu or beans, with a good quantity of olive oil, sunflower oil or even coconut oil!!! That will give you the extra amount of calories you're looking for.

However, we don't need more than 30 g of protein a day. More is too much -unless your body really CRAVES it, that means it's doing something special inside and needs an extra... but that's not very common-.

- - - - - - - - - - - - -- - -- - - - - - - - - - - -- --- -

1g of protein expends 4 calories. Most protein powders range between 25-30g of protein per scoop ie about 100 odd calories.

If you want to get in more calories you'd have to look towards other sources such as a mass-gainer, although why not just eat high energy foods like peanut butter/figrolls/pastas etc to get these calories & feel fuller. As for what happy-hippie said, the average person requires about 50g of protein daily not 30g & this increases based on exercise levels, i need about 120g-140g for example. If you are vegan, pea & rice combo or soy protein powders are the best choices. Otherwise Whey if not. However protein powders are only a cheap & time-effective source of getting protein, if you can obtain the necessary amount through diet alone you do not need protein powders.

Why the eggs are classified as dairy?

Dairy products are generally defined as food produced from the milk of mammals (the Food Standards Agency of the United Kingdom defines dairy as "foodstuffs made from mammalian milk").Apart from breastfed infants, the human consumption of dairy products is sourced primarily from the milk of cows, yet goats, sheep, yaks, camels, and other mammals are other sources of dairy products consumed by humans.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Eggs actually aren't considered dairy but are part of the meat and beans group. They are included there because they are stored in similar conditions and are used together in recipes.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ---- - - -

Chickens don't menstruate; I'm so tired of seeing that ignorant statement. Likewise, there is never a chance of a baby chick forming inside an egg unless that egg has been fertilized, and commercially raised, egg laying hens never see a rooster, so that's an impossibility.

Eggs are not considered dairy; they are a protein, same as meat and beans. They may be next to the dairy products in the store, but that's only because it's refrigerated.

Can vegetarians eat lard as a substitute for butter and margarine?

Lard is rendered pig fat, so it's not vegan.

Most margarines contain trace amounts of dairy products such as whey or lactose. However, there are a few brands that don't, including Earth Balance, Blue Bonnet Light Margarine, and Smart Balance Light Margarine. If you want to be sure that the margarine you're using is 100% vegan, you may want to use a product that is specifically marketed as a vegan non-dairy spread. If you're checking labels looking for a vegan margarine, be sure to look out for whey, lactose, casein and caseinate, which are dairy derivatives frequently used in margarines.

All stores tend to carry these products.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Vegans do not eat any bi-product of animals, lard is an animal product, its the fat from the abdomen of a pig... Therefore, no they do not. Also lard isn't an everyday substitute for butter/margarine because its very full on...You wouldn't want to spread it on your toast.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - -

You can if you want to. No one can stop you what you want to put into your mouth. I like to stir fry vegetables with lard, somewhat cooking with lard, the food seems tastier

What is the best meat to treat when it comes to not being a vegetarian and has been vegetarian?

I would say fish or chicken because it has less fat. Also, start out will small amounts, maybe 2 ounces once a day and then after a couple of weeks, twice a day. Eventually you can try lean beef maybe once a week.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You'll need to start out slow, your stomach won't be use to digesting the proteins that come in meats. Maybe fish or chicken. You might wanna consult a doctor.

- - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Anything that isn't highly seasoned or smoked, in small amounts. Try to get a lean cut of whatever you decide on.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

might as well start killing animals now that you're taking a job killing people. Start with cheap hotdogs. The ones made from chicken beef and pork.

What is a healthy breakfast for maintaining energy throughout the day?

Creamy Oatmeal recipe

1/3 cups water
1/3 cups milk
1/3 cups quick oats
Mix together in a microwave safe bowl and place in microwave on high for 2 minutes

Add any sugar, honey or natural sweeteners you want (chop some fruits up , or throw in some blueberries and brown sugar , or strawberries and flax seeds for an extra boost of omega-3

About 129 calories with only 4 grams of sugar(with out any toppings) and 6 grams of protien.

Protien helps keep you stay fuller longer :)

You can also make an omelette with cut up vegetable and a dash of paprika and pepper spice .

Or a peice of toast with a spoonful of peanut butter , a fruit, half a cup of plain yogurt with some sugar or sweetener , and about 10 almonds(takin too much nutscan really add up in calories (causin you to gain wait)! , 1 almond is 6.6 calories )

In other words try to get something with fibre and protien they breakdown slowly , so it'll make you fuller longer.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Breakfast should be nutritious and high-calorie. As they say,for breakfast you should eat like a king, for lunch you eat like a normal person and for dinner you eat like you're starving.

Steel cut oats are awesome. Or rolled oats... oatmeal in general is great (NOT instant). Fruits are good, yogurts are good (unless you're one of those new-age "Dairy is poison" people), eggs (if you aren't vegan), etc. I like to have steel cut oats with blueberries and almond slices, or with avocado and mission fig.

You just don't want to start the day as either low-calorie OR anything that's pure sugar. However, if you have nothing to eat other than, say, coffee cake... it's actually better to eat that in the morning than it is at night. When that happens it's just a matter of having a crappy day versus an all out shitty day. Best to make stuff ahead of time, such as with steel cut oats.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

7 hours is a pretty long time.....

You would probably need to eat a 500- 800 calorie meal to stay full that long.

If you eat that big of a meal, you will feel bloated.

It would be much better to eat a 500 calorie meal and be full for 4-5 hours... with a mid-day snack to keep you going for the next few hours.

As others have said, oatmeal is good. Peanut butter is good. Fruit is good.

Protein does keep you full longer compared to other macronutrients (carbs & fat).

Personally, my favorite breakfast is peanut butter on a rice cake (100 calories for peanut butter, 50 calories for a rice cake) along with a piece of dark chocolate (50 calories for chocolate) or small apple (50 calories)... which runs about 200 calories and keeps me full for 3 hours.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - -

I usually eat a bowl of oatmeal with soymilk, ground flaxseeds, and cinnamon. I love it and it keeps me full till lunch =). I also recently saw a breakfast burrito recipe that looked quite good involving tofu breaded with cornmeal and sauteed. Put that in a whole wheat wrap with spinach, salsa, and whatever else you want and it would probably be a delicious breakfast. I'm looking forward to trying it out myself

Is possible this: Animal manure used to grow food vegan?

How much of the organic produce in the stores is grown using cow/chicken type animal fertilizer? I was watching a documentary once and it showed how they collected all the enslaved animals dung to steam in a big pile to sell as fertilizer. So would this make a particular item technically not vegan even if its a fruit or vegetable. Ive never heard anyone ever inquire about such a thing.

Take it your way

Enslaved animals, how about the enslaved woman that get raped, mutilated and exploited in the collection of minerals for your phone, laptop and TV. Looks like your ignorant in other things to.

If it was up to veg/vegans, in their world more animals will die or cease to exist. More habitats would be destroyed to make way for crops and industrial green houses.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Everybody eats; everybody poops. Plants; which are food, and get THEIR nutrients from poop. It's the beautiful circle of life.

Vegetarians are reducing demand for meat to help animals

Yes and no. I do think the more people who choose not to eat meat the less demand for it there will be. Over the years the amount of non-meat eaters has steadily increased and it will definetely continue. The main reason people choose not to eat meat is to not support harming animals. Like when people boycott a brand or something they think is doing something wrong.

If enough people boycott the brand things do eventually change. vegetarians and vegans choose not to support something they think is wrong and hope that with each person that decides to make the change they will become closer to positive changes. Many also choose to help in other ways by helping at shelters, giving strays a home and etc. It mainly just comes down to doing what you think is right.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Vegetarians are lowering the demand for meat, which is saving animals because less animals are bred for meat. Every single vegetarian makes a small difference but billions of vegetarians make a big difference so join the billions of people that together are working towards making this a better world, for the animals, the environment and ourselves.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - -- - - - - -

To be frank... probably not. Just because you don't eat that hamburger doesn't mean someone else won't. That being said, abstaining from meat/meat by-products removes yourself from the complacency with the methods with which the industry produces its' animals. It is you saying, with your wallet "I do not support this, and I will not be party to it". When enough people do so, yes, changes in the numbers produced do occur. It doesn't change the life of those still produced, but it is at least a step in the right direction to make that decision.

It is simply saying "I don't agree with your methods. I will not support you with my money."

- - -- - - - - -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

honestly, no. they will still kill the animals because there isnt enough vegetarians for them not to. i dont eat meat because i dont like it, and i also just dont feel comfortable eating something that is a dead animal. that's just me though, some people dont care. its your choice.

How many tomatoes do you eat per week or month?

At least one a day, mostly in salad. Sometimes eat them just like an apple. And I'm not a vegetarian.
My favorite way to eat them is thinly sliced, alternating with thin slices of red onion, and mozzarella cheese slices, S&P and a zesty Italian dressing. Pour the dressing over the tomatoes, onions, and cheese, and let it marinate for 1/2 hour. Arranged in a circle on a large plate, with sprinkled fresh parsley, and a black olive center makes a great presentation.

Would you believe I have tomatoes in the greenhouse that still haven't ripened, it has been such a crap Summer and Autumn.
Do canned tomatoes count ? I like them.

Do I remember from macrobiotic hippie days that tomatoes are way off the scale one way or the other ? Eat a tomato and you have to eat three tons of porridge to compensate or something.

I drink at least four gallons of tomato juice a month. I also use tomato paste in cooking and fresh tomatoes in various ways. I eat a lot of tomatoes and tomato products. I'd have to keep track to come up with a concrete quantity.

My diet is also highly varied so one month may be much more tomato heavy than another. I buy what is ripe, what is in season and what is economical for the most part. This changes month to month and so does my diet as a result.

What is the difference in the tone of my body if you ate the same amount of calories but with only healthy food?

so, I always eat around 1300 calories, but my body is UGLY ! very not toned, and just very bad!

Take it your way

The only way to tone your muscles is to do strength training exercises, such as crunches, donkey kicks, toelifts, lifting weights. Of course you have to adjust you diet in order to feed the muscles and get the best results, but that's not the part where you tone.

"Is a calorie a calorie" yes and no. 300 calories of french fries is the same number of steel cut oats and figs. But which one is better for you?

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

If your body isn't toned, that's because you are getting inadequate EXERCISE. You could eat 800 calories a day of nothing but spinach and berries (super foods) and still not be toned. You must work out the specific muscle groups you want to have show in addition to consuming adequate protein and healthy fats to build those muscles (which likely means increasing caloric intake to compensate for the extra calories burned during exercise).

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

No dear. Toning happens when you USE the muscles. You cannot tone up by eating less. Healthy food without exercising particular muscles, will get you a slightly less blobby load of flesh inside your bog bag of skin, but it still won't tone you up and you will still have cellulite, stretchmarks and so on. Some foods really plump up the flesh you have, but again, calories are calories.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You need to exercise to get muscle tone. Though there have been studies showing that you burn calories faster while chewing non-processed food vs. packaged frozen food. So the packaged food has the correct calories but if you eat the equivalent calories in vegetables, half of it will burn off chewing and digesting.

Is it healthy to be a vegetarian, although do not eat the whole meal?

My friend and I were having a little debate today about this, and she was saying that its healthier to eat no meat at all. Is it truly? I know you can get proteins from other things, but a little meat isn't always unhealthy right?

Take it your way

It's not healthier to eat meat or to be vegetarian. A healthy diet has many variables to it, so to make meat (or lack thereof) the big factor of a healthy diet, is ridiculous. A healthy diet has to do with how you balance your carbs, proteins, fats, and other nutrients, as well as your portions, the way you prepare your foods, etc. This can be done regardless of whether you eat meat, dairy or eggs.

Anyone can eat a diet loaded with carbs, doesn't matter if they are vegan, vegetarian or if they eat meat.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

A little meat isn't always unhealthy just as a little fast food or a pack of cigarettes isn't, no,
but every study done on the relationship between diet and dietary-related disease shows that people are healthiest the least animal protein they eat.

If you become a vegetarian for about 2 months, you will lose weight of way healthier?

No on both counts. Vegetarianism means missing out parts of your diet for various reasons, it is not for losing weight, if you did things would be wrong.

You would become less healthy because vegetarian diets are not for human animals and miss out various useful components we have eaten in harmony with nature for thousands and thousands of years.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

No. vegetarians can fat quite easily as well.
Eat lots and lots of veg will help you loose weight, maybe dry chicken and fish could also help.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Vegetarian or Veganism isn't a 'diet'. It's not intended for weight loss. It's meant for people who don't want to eat meat or those who can't due to health issues.

You simply switch out animal protein, iron and b12 sources for plant based.

Beef becomes Beans
Pork becomes Lentils
Chicken becomes Tofu
Fish becomes Nuts and Seeds

Beans,Lentils,Tofu,Nuts and Seeds STILL contain fats, still contain things that you can find in meat products. It's just in plant form.

How to make vegetarian food have a good taste for you?

I like many vegetables i like spinach dips, asparagus, carrots, onions, squash but whenever i have en counted something labeled as a vegetarian dish i did not eat it it just did not taste good to me is there something in that style i don't know about that makes it taste different/ i earn the corn souffle served at T-day, and asparagus souffle and many other things.

Consider this:

Vegetarian food is anything apart from meat and other bits of a dead animal. We can eat any combination of foods and any spices. Souffles are by nature bland. Try some other vegetarian foods, a spicy chickpea curry, Mexican style beans, a vegetarian tom yum soup, some strawberry-balsamic glazed tempeh, some satay tofu on a stick, a vegie burger with fried onions, lettuce and mayo...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

May be it's problem of cook. You need to change cook. Although vegetables taste is not so good to eat, but it can be great by the specialised cook.

- -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- - - - - - - - -- - - -

You like fries, sweet potatoes, bakes potatoes with butter and cheese, corn chips, burritoes, black bean and corn salsa, hummous, peanut butter and J, oatmeal with maple syrup, ice cream, cheese doritoes, banana pancakes, corn muffins, waffles with chocolate, chickpea salad, cauliflour curry, fried rice and stri fried veg, don't you? They're all vegetarian.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Skilled cooks can make vegetarian food that tastes good. Most of it takes like something you feed to cows. I suggest your eat a well-rounded diet that includes meat and fish. Remember all things in moderation - like don't eat 12 cupcakes at one time.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

You can't possibly write off all veg food. They have everything. There is even veg food that tastes like meat.

How much you spend on vegetarian food monthly, and how many people that feeds?

I've been vegetarian for 7 years, and 3 of those years I was vegan. I didn't really start monitoring my expenses until recently, but now, I probably spend around $200/month on food, though I can go down to like $150 if my budget's really tight, but I end up eating a lot of bad, processed, junky food...

So I'm just looking to see how much different people spend each month on a raw vegan diet, to get an idea of how much I will be spending. I know it's probably going to quite a bit more expensive, but the health benefits, I think, will be great.

Take it your way

I have a raw vegan friend who spends $200 a week. On herself. I kid you not.
So.. $200 a MONTH is great.

I generally spend $60 a week on food, so you're even doing better than me. That said, I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world.

Do you go to markets and co-ops as much as possible? They're always going to be 2382392 times cheaper than supermarkets!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Grow your own! Whatever you like to eat out of fruits and vegetables learn how to grow it. Learn how to germinate, and how to PLANT TREES.

As for me I live in a place where there are all four seasons, so I usually have to grow really winter hardy crops in a heated green house/hoop house, or go to locally owned markets and get produce. It usually costs me $40.00 a week if I eat what I like (that includes mostly organic produce).

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

i think i could eat raw for right at 300 a month.and only some organic, not totally. fruit for breakfast. veggies, nuts and seeds for lunch and dinner. maybe some all fruit days especially if i find good fruit on sale.
not gourmet raw vegan with elaborate recipes. that's when it gets expensive.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Actually, raw food is a great deal cheaper than a conventional vegan diet. Produce is so much cheaper than frozen soy products, and processed convenience foods.

The most expensive item I purchase is bags of raw nuts at around $4 a bag. I use these to make dips, sauces, ice cream, nut butters etc, and those generally last me a week.

Is possible change your friends into vegetarians?

One fast way is to take them to a slaughter house for a "field trip".... or at least show them a video. I've only known a few people who saw something like that and didn't turn vegetarian (they were hunters or coldhearted people). Meat-eaters, though, don't like to change their lifestyle.... especially for a "stupid animal". I don't know your reasons for being a vegetarian, or wanting your friends to be vegetarians, but if you're trying the "it'll make your healthier" tactic... it ain't gonna work.

As much as it is true, it is hard to convince people that our bodies don't "need" meat. It's basically telling them that their chosen eating habits are unhealthy... they don't appreciate that one bit. You have to rely on the truth of animal cruelty and murdering. Don't be disappointed if your friends don't listen to you.... it's a difficult task. Just remember that even if you "fail", you've planted a little seed in their minds... maybe someone else along the way will water it.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

the only right way to do it is to be a good example of a vegetarian. if you want to preach to people about it then it's a turnoff. if they don't ask then don't tell them anything. their lives aren't your business. do you want people trying to convert you to their beliefs?

Types of vegetarian pizza

Many types of vegetarian pizza toppings are based on a variety of vegetables, fake meats, and unusual pizza toppings. Numerous vegetables can be used as pizza toppings, including common toppings such as onions, peppers, and olives, as well as basic pizza toppings like cheese and sauce.

There are also a number of products made for vegetarians that emulate the flavor and texture of different types of meat, including vegetarian sausage that can be used on pizza. Some vegetarian pizza toppings can also be used to make somewhat unusual pizzas, such as creamy sauces used on white pizzas or sweet toppings for dessert pizza.
